This Raku clay Garden Queen, named Abuela, is ready to bring a sense of personal style to your home. I don’t invent the body; I listen for it. I strive to create modern art figures that incorporate the emotional component as well as the visual aspect. What do you see here? How do you think she feels? What would you name her?

What is Raku in ceramic art? It is a glaze process discovered by the Raku family in Japan. As they were glazing their teacups, there was an accident and all the glazes were transformed from the expected to a surprising array of colors and tones. The Raku family chose to make use of this happy accident and continued to explore and push the technique creating metallic and crackle finishes that are unique to each finished piece. I use the Raku process to glaze these unique beauties. The glaze enhances the sense of strong individuality which I strive to capture for each goddess figure.
Raku Garden Queen, named Copper Woman, looks upward with a sense of hope and longing. She is strong and self-assured. Her wings are small but capable, and they guard a secret container that holds her magic.
The figure tells me where it wants to go as I am creating her.
